How to Make a Mojito

 

Mojito is a Cuban highball drink. Mojito recipe is very simple and easy to make, drink often consists of five Mojito ingredients. Its combination of citrus, sweet and herbaceous mint flavours is intended to complement the rum and has made the Cocktail mojito a popular summer drink.

Mojito Cocktail History:

A Moonshine like rum type alcohol was mixed with spearmint, lime and sugarcane juice or syrup to ward off illness. When pirates invaded Cuba the drink was introduced to Pirate Drake, where he promptly used rum in place of the Cuban Moonshine. The drink took on the name El Draque until it became the Mojito.

How to make Mojito:

Mojito is a very refreshing and simple drink to make, the cocktail consists of five ingredients W.Rum, spearmint, Lemon wedges, caster sugar and aerated water (soda). The drink is a combination of Limey, sweet and herbaceous. It has got many variations and twist.

Mojito Ingredient:

  • White Rum - 1 & 1/2 oz (45 ml)
  • Fresh Mint leaves - 6 to 7 leaves
  • Lemon wedges - 3 nos
  • Caster sugar - 2 teaspoons
  • Aerated water (soda) as necessary

Glassware: Gibraltar or collins Glass.

Method: Muddle and Stir.

Muddle is a method of making a cocktail, in this method all the ingredients that have to be muddled are put in a thick bottom glass and then muddled with the help of a muddler.

First, add mint & lemon wedges along with caster sugar and muddle the ingredients using a muddler and add w.rum, lemon juice if required, fill the glass with crushed ice and top it up with a splash of soda and give a small stir to make sure the drink is well mixed and balanced. 

Garnish: 

Garnish the drink using a mint sprig and a lemon wedge.
